This piece is about what refugees (indeed, all people) strive for – autonomy over your mind (represented by the magpie), body (the crane) and spirit (the crow) and the freedom to work (the sparrow) and play (the swift). The freedom to love is represented by the phoenix – who is shown shooting out rays of love over all else.
